What this trial studies
Fresh Takes! is a program designed to address food insecurity and improve diabetes management among patients at Montefiore Bronx Health Collective. Participants receive bimonthly fresh food boxes along with nutrition education and individualized support from a dietician over a six-month period. The program aims to enhance dietary habits, which are crucial for preventing diabetes progression and managing existing diabetes. By focusing on a vulnerable population, the initiative seeks to improve health outcomes and reduce diabetes-related complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-75 who are patients at Montefiore Bronx Health Collective and have experienced food insecurity while having prediabetes or diabetes.
Not a fit: Patients who do not experience food insecurity or who are outside the age range of 18-75 may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve dietary habits and diabetes management for participants, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While similar programs targeting food insecurity and diabetes management have shown promise, this specific approach of providing fresh food boxes combined with nutrition education is relatively novel.
