What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the SickKids Team Obesity Management Program (STOMP), which provides interdisciplinary care for children and adolescents with severe obesity. The program focuses on assessing patient outcomes, including anthropometric, metabolic, and psychosocial factors, while also measuring care coordination and satisfaction. Participants' outcomes will be compared to baseline data and a control group of interested patients who did not enroll in the program. The study aims to fill the gap in literature regarding the effectiveness of clinical interventions for severely obese pediatric patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 12-18 years with a body mass index above the 95th percentile for their age.
Not a fit: Patients who are not enrolled in the STOMP program and do not meet the BMI criteria may not receive any benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could lead to improved health outcomes and quality of life for children and adolescents struggling with obesity.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown significant benefits from interdisciplinary programs for managing obesity in pediatric populations, suggesting potential success for this approach.
