What this trial studies

This study evaluates a newly developed respiratory monitor called pneuRIP, which uses Respiratory Inductance Plethysmography (RIP) bands to measure breathing indices non-invasively. The trial involves 10 healthy children and 10 children with neuromuscular diseases, comparing the performance of the pneuRIP against an existing system, Respitrace. Participants will wear bands around their chest and abdomen while their breathing is monitored under different conditions, including normal breathing and breathing with resistance. The data collected will help assess the effectiveness of the pneuRIP in measuring respiratory function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include healthy children and children with mild breathing difficulties due to neuromuscular diseases.

Not a fit: Patients with severe breathing difficulties may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a reliable non-invasive method for monitoring respiratory function in children, particularly those with neuromuscular diseases.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in non-invasive respiratory monitoring techniques.
