What this trial studies
This study evaluates the KIOS mobile app, designed to assist individuals recovering from opioid use disorder (OUD) in self-managing their condition. It compares the app's effectiveness against standard treatment methods, providing personalized, evidence-based behavioral interventions based on real-time patient data. Participants will have 24/7 access to the app, which aims to enhance their engagement and response to traditional clinic-based counseling. The study is conducted with outpatients who are currently enrolled in medication-assisted treatment for OUD in Texas.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are outpatients aged 18 and older who are currently participating in medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder and can access the app via a smartphone or tablet.
Not a fit: Patients who are incarcerated or have psychiatric or medical disorders that hinder their ability to use the app may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly improve self-management and recovery outcomes for patients with opioid use disorder.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using digital health interventions for substance use disorders, suggesting potential success for this approach.
