What this trial studies

This observational study examines the effectiveness of the TIRADS and Bethesda scoring systems in managing thyroid nodules. It will involve patients with single or multinodular goiters and nodules larger than 1 cm admitted to the general surgical department at Sohag University Hospital. The study aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce unnecessary thyroidectomies by categorizing nodules based on their risk of malignancy. By utilizing ultrasound classification and fine needle aspiration (FNA), the study seeks to distinguish between benign and malignant cases more effectively.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with thyroid nodules larger than 1 cm, either single or multinodular goiters.

Not a fit: Patients with thyroid nodules smaller than 1 cm or those with a history of thyroid surgery or radiotherapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to a significant reduction in unnecessary thyroid surgeries for patients with benign nodules.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using ultrasound classification and FNA for thyroid nodule management, indicating that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
