What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the diagnostic accuracy of early transcranial ultrasound findings in patients with parkinsonism, essential tremor, and dementia within a Swedish population. By reviewing medical records and conducting follow-up examinations, the researchers will determine how well initial ultrasound results correlate with final diagnoses after an extended follow-up period. Additionally, the study will explore changes in ultrasound findings over time and their potential links to cognitive decline or dementia development. The study focuses on patients who had satisfactory transcranial bone windows and were previously diagnosed before 2017.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with parkinsonism or essential tremor who had contact with the clinic before 2017 and possess a satisfactory transcranial bone window.

Not a fit: Patients without a transcranial bone window will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance diagnostic accuracy for patients with extrapyramidal diseases, leading to better-targeted treatments.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in the context of this specific population, previous studies have shown promise in using transcranial ultrasound for diagnosing similar conditions.
