What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial investigates how hearing aids can improve communication effectiveness and reduce mental fatigue in individuals aged 60 and older with hearing loss. Participants will undergo hearing assessments and complete a series of tests before and after receiving hearing aids or educational sessions. The study also examines the relationship between cognitive resources, sleep efficiency, and overall well-being. Each participant will make three visits to the lab, where they will engage in various assessments and use tracking devices to monitor their sleep and activity levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 60 or older who have a hearing loss of 25 dB HL or worse and are new to using hearing aids.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 60, have normal hearing, or are already using hearing aids may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the quality of life for older adults by improving communication and reducing mental fatigue associated with hearing loss.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in improving communication and cognitive performance through the use of hearing aids, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
