What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of remote monitoring through an app and a questionnaire for lung transplant patients, potentially reducing the need for frequent hospital check-ups. Patients will be randomly assigned to either standard care or the remote monitoring group, where their health will be evaluated using home spirometry and a tailored questionnaire. The study will compare health outcomes and costs between the two groups, with the goal of determining if remote monitoring can safely replace some in-person visits. A total of 100 lung transplant recipients will be enrolled in this evaluation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are lung transplant recipients who are under the care of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and can consent to participate.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to operate the remote monitoring platform or do not provide consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more convenient and efficient care for lung transplant patients, reducing the burden of frequent hospital visits.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using remote monitoring for chronic conditions, suggesting potential success for this novel approach in lung transplant care.
