What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the quality of life in patients suffering from long COVID, particularly those experiencing cognitive symptoms, one year after receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). It will collect data through questionnaires and medical consultations at baseline and during treatment sessions, as well as follow-ups at 3 and 12 months post-treatment. The study will also evaluate the patients' return to work status and monitor any side effects or changes in medication throughout the treatment process. An interim analysis will be conducted after 6 months to determine the continuation or cessation of therapy based on patient improvement metrics.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are long COVID patients experiencing cognitive symptoms for more than three months who are referred for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Not a fit: Patients who cannot complete questionnaires or do not understand the Dutch language may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in improving the quality of life for long COVID patients.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results for hyperbaric oxygen therapy in improving quality of life for post-COVID patients, but long-term outcomes remain largely untested.
