Evaluating oxygen delivery's impact on kidney and heart health after surgery
El DORADO STUDY (Evaluation of Delivery of Oxygen on Renal, Arrhythmia and Delirium Outcomes Study)
This study is testing how delivering oxygen in a certain way during heart surgery can help prevent kidney problems and other complications in patients after the operation.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the noninvasive delivery of oxygen and hemodynamic indices to predict postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. It aims to assess the effects of these parameters on the development of postoperative acute kidney injury, neurocognitive disorders, and atrial fibrillation. The study will also utilize machine learning algorithms to analyze continuous hemodynamic and oxygen delivery data in real-time, guiding perioperative treatment decisions. By developing predictive indices, the research seeks to improve patient outcomes in the high-risk surgical population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 21 years old who are scheduled for elective cardiac surgeries such as valve replacements or CABG.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency cardiac procedures, those on intra-aortic balloon pumps postoperatively, or pregnant women may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prediction and management of postoperative complications, enhancing recovery and long-term health for cardiac surgery patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using noninvasive oxygen delivery and hemodynamic monitoring is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving postoperative outcomes, indicating potential for success.
