Evaluating omega-3 fatty acids and dietary influences in older Spanish adults
Evaluation of the Nutritional Status of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and the Possible Influences of Dietary Patterns and Different Socioeconomic Factors in a Spanish Population Over 60 Years of Age
This study looks at how diet and lifestyle affect omega-3 fatty acid levels in older adults in Spain to see if improving these levels can help their heart health.

What this trial studies
This observational study assesses the nutritional status of omega-3 fatty acids in individuals over 60 years of age in Spain. It aims to understand how dietary patterns and socioeconomic factors influence omega-3 levels, which are crucial for cardiovascular health. The omega-3 index, a biomarker reflecting the nutritional status of these fatty acids, will be measured through erythrocyte membranes. The study builds on previous findings indicating low omega-3 intake in older adults compared to international recommendations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals over 60 years of age living in Spain.
Not a fit: Patients with gastrointestinal diseases, cancer, or chronic kidney disease may not benefit from this study due to their conditions affecting nutritional status.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary recommendations and interventions for older adults to enhance their cardiovascular health.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies in Spain have indicated low omega-3 intake in older adults, suggesting that this approach is relevant and potentially impactful.
