Evaluating new imaging techniques for monitoring inflammatory bowel disease
Image Enhanced Endoscopy Technology to Improve the Detection of Colorectal Dysplasia in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease
NA · Royal Perth Hospital · NCT06266104

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of Image Enhanced Endoscopy technologies, specifically TXI and LCI, for surveillance colonoscopy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It compares these newer imaging methods to the traditional dye-spray chromoendoscopy, which is currently the gold standard. By conducting a randomized controlled trial, the study aims to determine if these advanced imaging techniques can provide reliable results while potentially saving time and resources during procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 18 to 75 with inflammatory bowel disease who require surveillance colonoscopy as per Australian guidelines.
Not a fit: Patients with active disease, inadequate bowel preparation, previous surgical resection of the colon, or a history of bowel cancer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could streamline surveillance colonoscopy for IBD patients, making it more efficient and less invasive.
How similar studies have performed: While dye-spray chromoendoscopy is well-established, the use of TXI and LCI in IBD surveillance is novel and has not been formally evaluated in a randomized controlled trial setting.
