What this trial studies

This study is a randomized, controlled trial that compares the effectiveness of music therapy combined with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) against NRT alone in managing cravings among student smokers aged 18 to 25. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups and will receive treatment for three months following their target quit date. The study will involve multiple visits to assess smoking status, carbon monoxide levels, body weight, and any adverse events, alongside questionnaires to evaluate the participants' experiences. The aim is to explore the potential benefits of a digital music therapy tool tailored for a younger audience in aiding smoking cessation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are students aged 18 to 25 who smoke more than 5 cigarettes per day and are motivated to quit.

Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to nicotine replacement therapy or those with significant mental health issues may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance smoking cessation efforts among young adults by reducing cravings more effectively.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of music therapy and NRT is a novel approach, previous studies have shown that music therapy can be beneficial in various therapeutic contexts.
