What this trial studies

This study is a randomized, controlled trial that compares the effectiveness of music therapy combined with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) against NRT alone in managing cravings among health staff who smoke. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups and will receive treatment for three months. Throughout this period, their smoking status, carbon monoxide levels, body weight, and any adverse events will be monitored during scheduled visits. Additionally, participants will complete various questionnaires to assess their psychological state and withdrawal symptoms.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are health staff aged 18 and older who smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day and are motivated to quit.

Not a fit: Patients who have contraindications to nicotine replacement therapy or those with unstable mental health conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a novel approach to enhance smoking cessation efforts among health staff by integrating music therapy.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of music therapy and NRT is a relatively novel approach, previous studies have shown positive outcomes with music therapy in various therapeutic contexts.
