What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the prevalence and characteristics of muscle involvement in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). It will evaluate muscle damage through various methods, including creatinine kinase levels, electromyography abnormalities, muscle MRI hyperintensities, and muscle biopsy inflammation. The study seeks to identify differences between SSc patients with and without muscle involvement and to categorize those with muscle involvement into homogeneous groups. The findings could enhance understanding of muscle-related manifestations in SSc and their association with other clinical features.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with systemic sclerosis based on the 2013 ACR/EULAR classification criteria.

Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of systemic sclerosis will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnosis and management of muscle involvement in systemic sclerosis patients.

How similar studies have performed: While muscle involvement in systemic sclerosis has been noted in literature, this study aims to provide a more structured evaluation, making it a novel approach.
