What this trial studies
This study assesses the effectiveness of low-dose chest CT scans combined with lung-RADS classification for screening lung cancer in individuals who are current or former smokers. It aims to determine the diagnostic performance of this approach in detecting lung cancer early among high-risk populations. Participants will undergo a CT scan to evaluate the presence of lung cancer, with a focus on those aged 50 to 80 who have a significant smoking history.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men and women aged 50-80 who are current or former smokers with a history of at least 15 pack-years.
Not a fit: Patients who have had a chest CT scan in the past 12 months or those with a personal history of cancer within the last 5 years may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection of lung cancer in smokers, potentially saving lives.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar low-dose CT screening approaches for lung cancer, indicating potential for effective early detection.
