What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the long-term incidence and effects of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in Chinese patients who have undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (SG). The research will involve patients who had SG performed more than 36 months prior, with preoperative assessments conducted using the C-GIQLI questionnaire. The study seeks to clarify discrepancies in existing literature regarding the development or worsening of GERD post-surgery, which can significantly impact patients' quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Chinese patients who have undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy at least 36 months prior and are willing to participate in follow-up assessments.
Not a fit: Patients who have had revisional surgery, concomitant surgeries, or are unable to consent or follow up will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the long-term effects of sleeve gastrectomy on GERD, potentially guiding better patient management and surgical decisions.
How similar studies have performed: While some studies have shown varying outcomes regarding GERD after sleeve gastrectomy, this study aims to provide more definitive long-term data in the Chinese population, making it a novel approach.
