Evaluating how pre-surgery albumin levels affect recovery in liver cancer patients
The Impacts of preopeRative sErum Albumin Levels on Postoperative Outcomes in Chinese HCC Patients Treated With Surgical Operation: REAL Study

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between preoperative serum albumin levels and postoperative outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who undergo hepatectomy or liver transplantation. By analyzing real-world data from patients treated at Zhongshan Hospital, the study aims to clarify how hypoalbuminemia influences recovery and complications after surgery. The research focuses on patients diagnosed with HCC, assessing their serum albumin levels within a week before surgery to determine potential risks associated with low albumin levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma who are scheduled for their first hepatectomy or liver transplantation.
Not a fit: Patients with extrahepatic metastasis or other malignant tumors will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify at-risk patients and improve postoperative care strategies for liver cancer surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that low serum albumin levels are linked to poorer surgical outcomes, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing literature.
