Evaluating heart function in sepsis using advanced imaging techniques

The Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of Speckle Tracking Imaging in Septic Cardiomyopathy: a Prospective Cohort Study

Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital · NCT05624619

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the role of speckle tracking imaging (STI), particularly the tissue motion analysis derived (TMAD) method, in assessing left ventricular function in patients diagnosed with sepsis. The researchers will evaluate whether TMAD can effectively differentiate septic-induced cardiomyopathy (SICM) and provide predictive insights regarding patient outcomes. By gathering evidence-based data, the study seeks to enhance clinical applications of STI technology in managing sepsis-related cardiac dysfunction.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with sepsis according to the Sepsis 3.0 criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of organic heart disease, heart failure, or those with cardiac implanted devices will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the diagnosis and management of cardiac dysfunction in sepsis patients, leading to better patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of speckle tracking imaging is established in other cardiac conditions, this specific application in septic cardiomyopathy is novel and has not been extensively tested.
