What this trial studies

This study evaluates the efficacy of electroacupuncture as an adjuvant therapy for women suffering from overactive bladder (OAB), a condition characterized by frequent urination and urgency. The approach combines traditional Chinese medicine principles with conventional Western treatments to assess improvements in urinary symptoms, quality of life, and autonomic nervous system function. Participants will receive either electroacupuncture or sham acupuncture to determine the treatment's effectiveness. The study aims to provide a less invasive alternative to traditional pharmacological treatments, which often have undesirable side effects.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are females aged 20-80 who are diagnosed with overactive bladder.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of cancer, stroke, hyperthyroidism, or those who are pregnant or have urinary tract infections may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve the quality of life for women suffering from overactive bladder by reducing symptoms and reliance on medications.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that similar neuromodulation techniques, like transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, have been effective in treating overactive bladder symptoms, suggesting potential for success with electroacupuncture.
