Evaluating early exercise after breast reconstruction
Randomized Controlled Study to Evaluate the Effect of Early Exercise on Functional Restoration of Exercise and Surgical Outcomes After Breast Reconstruction
NA · Yonsei University · NCT06552650
This study tests if starting an early exercise program can help women recovering from breast reconstruction after mastectomy move better and feel healthier compared to those who just get regular care.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of an early exercise program for women recovering from breast reconstruction following mastectomy. It aims to address postoperative movement restrictions and improve shoulder function, which is often compromised after surgery. By comparing outcomes between patients who participate in an early exercise regimen versus those receiving usual care, the study seeks to determine the benefits of early rehabilitation on physical function and quality of life. The research focuses on adult women diagnosed with breast cancer who are scheduled for unilateral or bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult women aged 19 to 70 who are scheduled for mastectomy and breast reconstruction due to breast cancer.
Not a fit: Patients over 70 years old, those with metastatic breast cancer, or individuals with significant postoperative complications may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly enhance recovery and quality of life for breast cancer patients undergoing reconstruction.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with early postoperative exercise in similar contexts, suggesting potential success for this approach.
