What this trial studies
The BEGIN Study by BostonGene and Exigent aims to assess the efficacy and feasibility of comprehensive molecular testing in patients with advanced cancers such as breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, melanoma, and sarcoma. Utilizing the BostonGene Tumor Portrait test, the study will identify actionable genomic findings and evaluate their impact on treatment decisions and patient outcomes. Over two years, four cohorts of 100 patients each will be monitored to determine the frequency of molecularly matched therapies and patient enrollment in clinical trials based on test results. The study seeks to demonstrate the clinical utility of genomic testing in guiding therapy in community settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with locally recurrent, unresectable, or metastatic breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, melanoma, or sarcoma.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a confirmed malignancy or those with a life expectancy of less than three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance personalized treatment options for advanced cancer patients by identifying targeted therapies based on genomic profiles.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar genomic testing approaches, indicating potential for meaningful advancements in cancer treatment.
