What this trial studies

This study aims to assess the effects of citicoline, an over-the-counter supplement, compared to a placebo on the immune system, brain function, and cognitive abilities in adolescents aged 16 to 22 who may be experiencing alcohol use disorder. Participants will receive either citicoline or a placebo oral capsule, and their responses will be monitored to determine the supplement's efficacy. The study seeks to provide insights into how citicoline may influence recovery and cognitive health in young individuals dealing with alcohol-related issues.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 16 to 22 who may be experiencing alcohol use disorder.

Not a fit: Patients outside the age range of 16 to 22 or those not experiencing alcohol use disorder may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could offer a new, non-invasive treatment option for adolescents struggling with alcohol use disorder.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on citicoline specifically for alcohol use disorder, similar studies exploring cognitive enhancers in addiction treatment have shown promising results.
