What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the clinical, laboratory, and instrumental differences between beta-thalassemia patients with atrial fibrillation and those without. It involves the collection of data from patients who have undergone cardiological evaluations at the University Hospital of Ferrara from 2012 to 2022, as well as those who will be evaluated in the next decade. Patients will be categorized into two groups based on their atrial fibrillation status, allowing for a comparative analysis of their characteristics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia who have undergone cardiological evaluations.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age, pregnant individuals, or those unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the relationship between beta-thalassemia and atrial fibrillation, potentially leading to improved management strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on atrial fibrillation and thalassemia, this specific observational approach focusing on comparative analysis is relatively novel.
