European practice patterns for symptomatic non-ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms
Investigating Practice Patterns in Symptomatic Non-ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) in Europe
Wilhelminenspital Vienna · NCT07184723

What this trial studies
This multinational cross-sectional online survey asks European vascular centres that perform elective and emergency AAA repair to report institutional practices and opinions on the definition, diagnosis, preoperative risk assessment, and treatment of symptomatic non-ruptured AAAs. Each participating centre submits a single response and is asked to provide data on its last five adult patients treated for symptomatic non-ruptured AAA (or the last patients within the prior five years if fewer cases occurred). An optional retrospective validation component allows centres to submit anonymized case details to compare real-world practice against survey responses. The project aims to map international and institutional variability to support clearer diagnostic pathways and more consistent management strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged over 18 who were treated for symptomatic, non-ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms at participating European vascular centres—centres are asked to report their last five such patients or the last patients within the past five years.
Not a fit: Patients with asymptomatic AAAs, those with ruptured AAAs, or patients treated outside participating European vascular centres are unlikely to be represented and therefore are less likely to benefit directly from this survey's findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could lead to clearer definitions and more consistent diagnostic and treatment pathways across Europe, which may improve timely care and outcomes for patients with symptomatic non-ruptured AAAs.
How similar studies have performed: Large-scale, population-based evidence for symptomatic non-ruptured AAAs is limited, so this approach is relatively novel and builds on only small or single-centre reports rather than established successful multicentre surveys.
