What this trial studies
Researchers will pilot six ethnodramas—short plays developed and pre-tested—to portray young women's experiences with PrEP and stimulate community discussion. Performances will be held in Kisumu with adult audience members, some of whom will be identified during the first play to take part in follow-up activities. The pilot focuses on logistical feasibility and collects audience perceptions about whether the intervention changes PrEP-related stigma toward young women. Data will come from observations, audience selection, and participant feedback to inform refinement for larger evaluations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are young cisgender women who currently use or previously used PrEP and adult community members (men and women) in Kisumu willing to attend the ethnodrama performances.
Not a fit: People who do not attend the performances, live outside the Kisumu area, or whose experiences differ substantially from those portrayed may not receive benefit from this pilot.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could reduce PrEP-related stigma and increase community support for young women, which may improve PrEP uptake and continued use.
How similar studies have performed: Arts-based and theatre interventions have shown promise in reducing HIV-related stigma in some settings, but rigorous evidence specifically for PrEP-focused ethnodramas is limited.
