What this trial studies

This decentralized randomized trial asks cancer survivors with moderate fatigue to use the EnergyPoints app, which guides self-administered acupressure, while wearing a provided Fitbit. After a one-week baseline, participants are randomized to start six weeks of daily app-guided acupressure immediately or to a wait-list, with continuous activity and sleep monitoring by Fitbit and regular questionnaires delivered through the app. Data collection includes symptom questionnaires and a final online interview, and all activities are conducted remotely. The interdisciplinary team aims to validate the app's effect on fatigue, sleep, and health-related quality of life.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) who have current or prior cancer, report at least moderate fatigue (>4/10), can read English, own a compatible Android phone, and are willing to wear a provided Fitbit and use the app daily.

Not a fit: Patients with recent bleeding or bruising risk, those who are too ill to participate, prior EnergyPoints users, or people without a compatible Android phone may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If effective, the app could offer an accessible, low-cost way for cancer survivors to self-manage fatigue and improve sleep without in-person visits.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown that acupressure can reduce cancer-related fatigue and improve sleep, but delivering guidance via a standalone mobile app is less well tested.
