What this trial studies
This study involves a retrospective and prospective chart review of patients who have undergone peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The retrospective review covers patients treated between June 2016 and January 2019, while the prospective review includes patients treated from February 2019 to June 2021. Data will be collected from electronic health records without any additional tests or procedures required for participants. All subjects will be consented for participation, and their data will be de-identified to protect personal health information.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have undergone POEM for achalasia between June 2016 and June 2021.
Not a fit: Patients who have not undergone POEM for achalasia or are under 18 years of age will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the effectiveness and outcomes of POEM for achalasia, potentially leading to improved treatment protocols.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar endoscopic procedures for achalasia, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
