What this trial studies
This study evaluates the impact of snus, a type of sublingual snuff, on home blood pressure and metabolic markers in individuals who are former daily users of snus. It aims to assess changes in blood pressure over weeks to months during periods of cessation and potential relapse into snus use. The study will recruit 28 healthy volunteers and measure their home blood pressure, lipid levels, and metabolic markers before and after cessation, as well as during relapse if it occurs. Participants will report their daily snus usage and undergo regular assessments to track these health metrics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy individuals who have a history of daily snus use and are currently not using any other nicotine or tobacco products.
Not a fit: Patients with existing cardiovascular diseases, hormonal disorders, or those who are pregnant will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of snus use, potentially guiding better health recommendations for former users.
How similar studies have performed: While studies on smoking and blood pressure have been conducted, the specific effects of snus on home blood pressure and metabolism over a longer timeframe remain largely untested.
