Effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on heart health in type 2 diabetes patients after heart attacks
Real World Observation of SGLT2 Inhibitors on Clinical Outcomes and Left Ventricular Remodeling in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction, a Prospective, Multi-center Registry Study
This study is testing if a diabetes medication called SGLT2 inhibitors can help improve heart health and reduce heart problems in people with type 2 diabetes who have had a heart attack.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on clinical outcomes and left ventricular remodeling in type 2 diabetes patients who have experienced an acute myocardial infarction and undergone percutaneous coronary intervention. Conducted across eight hospitals in South Korea, the study will compare outcomes in patients using SGLT2 inhibitors to a control group from a previous cohort. The hypothesis is that SGLT2 inhibitors will lead to reduced cardiovascular events and improved heart function post-myocardial infarction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include type 2 diabetes patients who have recently suffered an acute myocardial infarction and are starting SGLT2 inhibitors.
Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes, those using insulin or GLP-1 analogues, or previous users of SGLT2 inhibitors may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into optimal diabetes management strategies that improve heart health after heart attacks.
How similar studies have performed: While previous studies have shown benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors in diabetes patients without cardiovascular disease, this specific approach in acute myocardial infarction patients is novel.
