Effects of melatonin on IVF outcomes in older women
The Effect of Melatonin Supplementation on Cumulus Cells and Reproductive Outcomes in Older Women Undergoing IVF Cycles
This study is testing if taking melatonin for a couple of months can help older women, aged 35 to 45, have better success with in vitro fertilization (IVF).

What this trial studies
This study investigates how melatonin supplementation affects cumulus cell gene expression and in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in women aged 35 to 45. Participants will receive melatonin for at least two months before their IVF cycles, while a control group will not receive the supplement. After oocyte retrieval, cumulus cells will be collected to analyze gene expression, and various IVF outcomes such as clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates will be compared between the two groups. The study aims to determine if melatonin can improve fertility outcomes in older women undergoing IVF.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 35 to 45 with a BMI between 18 and 30 who are planning to undergo IVF cycles.
Not a fit: Patients with primary ovarian insufficiency, a history of oophorectomy, or those receiving oocyte donation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance IVF success rates for older women by improving cellular function through melatonin supplementation.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of melatonin in fertility treatments is promising, this specific approach focusing on older women and cumulus cell gene expression is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
