What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of krill oil supplementation on red blood cell physiology and iron metabolism in a group of professional rowers aged 18 to 24. A total of 30 athletes will be randomly assigned to either a krill oil supplement group or a placebo group for six weeks. Participants will undergo rowing performance tests before and after the supplementation period to assess any changes in their physical performance and blood parameters. The study aims to determine if krill oil can reduce oxidative stress and improve iron metabolism in these athletes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are professional rowers aged 18 to 24 with at least five years of training experience.

Not a fit: Patients with health problems or those currently on antibiotic therapy or other supplements may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance athletic performance and recovery by improving red blood cell function and reducing oxidative stress.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on krill oil in this context, similar studies on omega-3 fatty acids have shown promising results in improving athletic performance and reducing oxidative stress.
