What this trial studies

This trial investigates how a single session of mindfulness-based high-intensity interval training (MF-HIIT) affects executive function in children aged 10-12. Participants will engage in different activities, including MF-HIIT, mindfulness-only, and high-intensity interval training-only, compared to sitting rest. The study aims to determine which of these activities provides the most significant benefits to cognitive performance and brain function, measured through specific brain wave responses. Each child will visit the lab on five separate occasions, ensuring they have not participated in structured physical activities beforehand.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy children aged 10-12 years with an IQ of 85 or higher and no cognitive or neurological disorders.

Not a fit: Children outside the age range or those with cognitive disorders or lower IQs may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance cognitive performance in children through innovative exercise and mindfulness techniques.

How similar studies have performed: While there is growing interest in the effects of exercise and mindfulness on cognitive function, this specific combination of MF-HIIT has not been extensively tested, making it a novel approach.
