What this trial studies

This study investigates the levels of inflammation markers NLRP3, caspase-1, and IL-1β in the gingival crevicular fluid of children aged 11-14 with gingivitis. Participants will undergo periodontal therapy, and their fluid samples will be collected before treatment and again on the 7th and 30th days post-treatment to assess changes in these markers. The goal is to understand how effective periodontal treatment is in reducing inflammation associated with gingivitis in pediatric patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are systemically healthy children aged 11-14 with permanent dentition who have been diagnosed with gingivitis.

Not a fit: Patients who are systemically unhealthy or require endodontic and restorative treatment will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment protocols for managing gingivitis in children, potentially reducing inflammation and promoting better oral health.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on periodontal therapy in adults, this specific focus on pediatric patients and the measurement of these particular inflammation markers is relatively novel.
