What this trial studies

This study investigates how different dietary nitrate supplements, specifically beetroot juice and freeze-dried beetroot crystals, impact oral health markers such as salivary pH and oral microbiome composition in healthy adults aged 18-65. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: a control group receiving a placebo, a group consuming beetroot juice standardized to contain approximately 400 mg of nitrate, and a group taking freeze-dried beetroot crystals. The study also aims to assess the acceptability and ease of integrating these supplements into daily diets.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18 to 65 years without chronic diseases or conditions affecting oral health.

Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases, current smokers, or those with dietary restrictions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to new dietary interventions that improve oral health and microbiome balance.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using dietary nitrate supplements for oral health is relatively novel, similar studies have shown promising results in other health areas.
