What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the impact of daily taurine supplementation (4 grams) over six months on biological aging and various metabolic health indicators in adults aged 55 to 75. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either taurine or a placebo, with assessments conducted at multiple points to evaluate changes in biological age, physical fitness, metabolic functions, and cognitive health. The study aims to determine if taurine can effectively slow down biological aging and improve overall health metrics in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy men and women aged 55 to 75 with a BMI between 22 and 30 kg/m².
Not a fit: Patients with severe chronic illnesses, recent significant weight changes, or acute inflammation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a novel approach to slowing biological aging and enhancing metabolic health in older adults.
How similar studies have performed: While taurine's effects on aging are being explored, this specific approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
