What this trial studies

This study investigates how exercises aimed at correcting forward head posture affect the electromyographic (EMG) activity of masticatory and cervical muscles in patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Participants will be randomly assigned to either an experimental group, which will perform a specific exercise program, or a control group, which will only do neck flexion exercises. The exercise program will be conducted four times a week for ten weeks, with muscle activity measured before and after the intervention using a biopic data acquisition system. The study aims to provide insights into the relationship between head posture and muscle function in TMD patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are men and women aged 18-40 who suffer from temporomandibular disorder and have not received other treatments in the past two weeks.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of TMJ subluxation or dislocation, neck pain affecting posture, or other specific exclusions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients suffering from temporomandibular disorder.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific approach, similar studies have shown promise in addressing posture-related issues in TMD treatment.
