What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the impact of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on endothelial, vascular, and myocardial function in patients diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either 240mg of CoQ10 or a placebo for a duration of six months. Key measurements will include assessments of blood vessel function, heart function, and liver fat content using advanced imaging techniques. The study aims to determine if CoQ10 can improve cardiovascular health in this high-risk population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease who also exhibit one or more conditions related to metabolic syndrome.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic kidney disease, heart failure, liver failure, or those who are pregnant or have active malignancies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new therapeutic option to improve cardiovascular health in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of CoQ10 in this context is novel, previous studies have shown potential benefits of CoQ10 in improving cardiovascular function in other populations.
