Effects of cancer treatments on metabolism and bone health in early breast cancer survivors
Metabolic and Bone Changes After Adjuvant Cancer Treatments in Early Non-metastatic Breast Cancer - a 5-year Follow-up Study.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the metabolic and bone health changes in post-menopausal women aged 50-70 who have been treated for early non-metastatic breast cancer. Over a five-year period, the study will assess factors such as bone mineral density, body composition, glucose metabolism, and nerve damage before and after chemotherapy. The goal is to identify the physiological and molecular mechanisms behind treatment-related side effects and to discover potential biomarkers for predicting and preventing metabolic diseases. A questionnaire will also be utilized to gather additional health information from participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are post-menopausal women aged 50-70 who have been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and are eligible for (neo-)adjuvant chemotherapy.
Not a fit: Patients with prior malignancies or existing metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved strategies for preventing metabolic diseases in breast cancer survivors.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding treatment-related side effects in cancer survivors, but this specific focus on metabolic and bone changes is relatively novel.
