What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates how transitioning to an obesogenic lifestyle affects insulin resistance and metabolic flexibility in recreationally active young adults. It aims to determine if adding excess carbohydrates while becoming less active leads to insulin resistance and impaired glucose regulation. The study also explores whether physical activity can mitigate these effects on carbohydrate and fat metabolism. Participants will be divided into groups based on their physical activity levels and carbohydrate intake to assess these changes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy young adults aged 18-30 who are recreationally active and meet specific fitness criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into preventing obesity and metabolic disorders in young adults transitioning to a sedentary lifestyle.

How similar studies have performed: While previous animal studies have shown similar effects of diet and activity on obesity and insulin resistance, this approach in humans is less explored, making it a novel investigation.
