Effects of alternate day fasting and krill oil on muscle strength and body composition in overweight adults
Changes in Muscle Strength, Inflammatory Markers, and Body Composition in Response to Alternate Day Fasting Combined With Krill Oil Supplementation in Adults With Overweight and Obesity
This study is testing if taking krill oil while doing alternate day fasting can help overweight adults keep their muscle strength and improve their body composition while losing weight.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the impact of krill oil supplementation combined with alternate day fasting on muscle strength, body composition, and inflammatory markers in adults with overweight and obesity. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either krill oil or a placebo while following a structured dietary weight loss intervention. The study consists of a preparation phase, an eight-week weight loss phase, and an eight-week weight maintenance phase, lasting a total of 20 weeks. The trial aims to assess whether krill oil can mitigate muscle loss and improve metabolic health during weight loss.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 25 to 65 with a BMI between 25 and 39.9 who have maintained stable body weight for at least three months.
Not a fit: Patients who smoke, have food allergies, or are on dietary supplements may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a novel approach to enhance weight loss outcomes and improve muscle strength in individuals with obesity.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar dietary interventions, but the specific combination of alternate day fasting and krill oil is relatively novel.
