What this trial studies

This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of short wave diathermy therapy in alleviating pain, improving grip strength, and enhancing functionality in patients diagnosed with hand osteoarthritis. Participants aged 35 to 75 will be recruited from a physical medicine and rehabilitation outpatient clinic and will undergo a series of assessments including pain scales and hand function tests. The study will involve 36 patients who will be randomly assigned to either a treatment group receiving actual diathermy or a control group receiving sham treatment, with both groups participating in an exercise program. The outcomes will be measured after 15 treatment sessions to determine the therapy's efficacy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 35 to 75 with a diagnosis of hand osteoarthritis.

Not a fit: Patients with chronic inflammatory diseases, malignancies, or uncontrolled systemic diseases will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly reduce pain and improve hand function for patients with hand osteoarthritis.
