What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the efficacy of olanzapine in preventing weight gain among patients with advanced gynecologic cancer who are undergoing treatment with paclitaxel and carboplatin. It is a double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial, meaning that neither the participants nor the researchers know who is receiving the olanzapine or the placebo. The study aims to determine the proportion of patients who experience weight gain while on these treatments. Participants must meet specific eligibility criteria, including having normal organ function and being able to communicate in Thai.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with advanced stage gynecologic cancer who are receiving paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy and have a good performance status.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have active infections, or have certain medical conditions such as diabetes or morbid obesity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help manage weight gain in patients undergoing chemotherapy for advanced gynecologic cancer, improving their overall quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the specific use of olanzapine for weight gain in this context, similar studies have explored the use of olanzapine for weight management in other patient populations with some success.
