What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the impact of subgingival instrumentation on masticatory performance and psychological distress in patients with Stage III and IV periodontitis. Participants aged 30-50 with a minimum of 20 teeth will undergo treatment and be assessed for changes in chewing ability and psychological well-being after 2 and 3 months. The study aims to understand the relationship between periodontal health and its effects on both physical and mental health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 30-50 diagnosed with Stage III or IV generalized periodontitis and having at least 20 teeth.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases affecting periodontal health or masticatory ability, as well as those with recent periodontal treatment or psychiatric disorders, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could improve chewing function and reduce psychological distress in patients suffering from severe gum disease.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, existing literature suggests that improving periodontal health can positively influence masticatory function and psychological well-being.
