What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of Nuan-gong-ye, a traditional Chinese medicine, in alleviating primary dysmenorrhea, which is a common menstrual pain experienced by women. The study will involve 140 participants who will be randomly assigned to receive either Nuan-gong-ye or a placebo over four menstrual cycles. Participants will apply the treatment starting five days before their menstrual period and will report their pain levels using standardized questionnaires. The trial aims to assess the pain relief provided by Nuan-gong-ye compared to the placebo.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 20-40 with regular menstrual cycles and monthly dysmenorrhea starting before age 20.

Not a fit: Patients with organic lesions, major illnesses, or those who have used Nuan-gong-ye previously will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a non-invasive and effective option for women suffering from primary dysmenorrhea.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on Nuan-gong-ye specifically, other studies on traditional Chinese medicine for menstrual pain have shown promising results.
