What this trial studies
This observational study aims to create a central database to analyze clinical parameters of patients with morbid obesity, focusing on the impact of bariatric surgery on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). It will compare outcomes between patients receiving invasive bariatric treatment and those who do not at Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHK Medical Centre. Additionally, the study will benchmark results against other bariatric surgery centers in Hong Kong and international databases to assess performance. The goal is to provide insights into the effectiveness of bariatric surgery in improving both weight management and associated urinary symptoms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with a BMI greater than 25 who are seeking treatment for severe obesity.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable or unwilling to provide consent, or belong to special populations such as prisoners or mentally disabled individuals, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for morbidly obese patients suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with bariatric surgery in improving comorbidities, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
