What this trial studies

Adults with newly diagnosed advanced or metastatic sarcoma (or their caregivers) will watch four targeted educational videos before their first appointment with a medical oncologist. Participants will complete questionnaires measuring their knowledge and understanding before the videos and again after the first clinic visit. The intervention is compared with standard of care education provided in the clinic. The setting is Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and enrollment requires informed consent and English literacy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (≥18) with histologically confirmed advanced/metastatic sarcoma who have not received prior systemic treatment, or their caregivers, who can read and write English and provide informed consent.

Not a fit: People who have already been seen by a medical oncologist for their sarcoma, those with previous systemic sarcoma treatment, those unable to consent, or those who cannot read English are not likely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, patients may come into their first oncology visit better informed and more prepared to discuss treatment choices, improving communication and decision-making.

How similar studies have performed: Educational video interventions in other cancer settings have often improved patient knowledge and preparedness, though using this approach specifically for sarcoma is relatively uncommon.
