What this trial studies

This randomized interventional project will assign eligible patients to receive either standard care or standard care plus access to an educational podcast series about pelvic pain. Participants assigned to the podcast arm will be asked to listen to the episode series on their personal device, and all participants will complete three online 10-minute surveys over six months. Eligible participants are English-speaking adults (18+) seen as new patients or consults in the division of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Vanderbilt and who have an email address and device capable of playing podcasts. The study is single-site and focuses on patient-reported outcomes such as quality of life, stigma, and satisfaction with medical care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are English-speaking adults (18+) who are new patients or consults in the division of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Vanderbilt for chronic pelvic pain or endometriosis and who have an email address and a personal device that can play podcasts.

Not a fit: People being seen for acute pelvic pain, those who do not speak English, or those without access to email or a device to play podcasts may not receive benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the podcast could improve patient knowledge, coping, and satisfaction, and modestly improve quality of life for people with pelvic pain.

How similar studies have performed: Digital education and self-management programs for chronic pain have shown modest benefits in knowledge and coping, but using a podcast format for pelvic pain is relatively novel and not widely tested.
