Eccentric training for rehabilitation after ACL surgery
Effects of Eccentric Training in the Rehabilitation of Patients Undergoing Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: a Randomized Controlled Trial
NA · Federal University of Health Science of Porto Alegre · NCT06905691

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of eccentric training on the rehabilitation of patients who have undergone Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACL-R). A total of thirty-four participants will be randomly assigned to either a Conventional Training Group or an Eccentric Training Group, both following a structured rehabilitation program starting in the first week post-surgery. The key difference lies in the exercise regimen, where the Eccentric Training Group will focus on eccentric movements while the Conventional Training Group will perform standard exercises. Assessments will be conducted at three intervals to evaluate the effectiveness of the training approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 to 40 scheduled for ACL reconstruction surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who experience delays in starting rehabilitation or have additional injuries affecting weight-bearing may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance rehabilitation outcomes and speed up recovery for patients undergoing ACL reconstruction.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with eccentric training in rehabilitation, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: \- Individuals of both genders, aged between 18 and 40 years, scheduled for ACL reconstruction surgery during the data collection period. Exclusion Criteria: * Delay of more than 7 days after surgery to initiate the rehabilitation program proposed by the study; * Presence of injuries related to the rupture of the ACL that hinder partial weight-bearing in the first week after surgery, either due to medical recommendation or the patient inability/disposition.
