Early lymphatic monitoring to help prevent lymphoedema in cancer patients

Subclinical Assessment and Monitoring of Lymphatic System Function in Oncology Patients as Part of Physiotherapeutic Prevention of Limb Lymphoedema

Observational The Greater Poland Cancer Centre · NCT07011316

What this trial studies

This is an observational program that uses noninvasive bioimpedance spectroscopy to monitor subclinical lymphatic function in adult oncology patients at the Greater Poland Cancer Centre. Participants who meet inclusion criteria will undergo periodic measurements to identify early fluid changes before visible swelling occurs. The protocol excludes patients with implanted electronic devices, significant cardiac arrhythmias, or other contraindications that interfere with the measurement technique. The goal is to identify early lymphatic dysfunction to enable timely interventions and reduce progression to clinically apparent lymphoedema.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults (≥18) receiving care in participating departments at the Greater Poland Cancer Centre who can stand independently for 30 seconds and can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices, significant arrhythmias, advanced heart failure, pregnancy, critical limb ischemia, or who cannot stand for 30 seconds are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this monitoring approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, earlier detection could allow timely interventions that reduce the incidence and severity of cancer-related lymphoedema.

How similar studies have performed: Similar approaches using bioimpedance spectroscopy have shown promise for early detection and prevention of breast cancer–related lymphoedema, though evidence across other cancer types is more limited.
